Burnout prevention for employers

Burnout rarely appears out of nowhere. Months of insufficient recovery come first. Here is what you can do as an employer before someone drops out.

Quick answer

What is burnout prevention at work?

Burnout prevention means spotting overload before someone calls in sick. At MentalCareDirect™ coaches contact the participating employee themselves every quarter for a measurement and targeted coaching. If more is going on, our psychologists start treatment within a few working days, with no waiting list.

  • Quarterly medical-grade ECG measurement of three to five days
  • Coaches take the initiative, employees do not have to request anything
  • Treatment without a waiting list when coaching is not enough
  • Fixed monthly amount, only for participating employees

Why waiting is the most expensive choice

One in five employees reports burnout complaints. Absence caused by mental health complaints lasts the longest on average and quickly costs employers tens of thousands of euros per employee in continued pay, replacement and lost productivity.

The cost does not start with the sick note, but in the months before it. During that period someone still works, but delivers considerably less.

Prevention is therefore not a nice-to-have. It is the cheapest point in the process to intervene.

Signals that precede burnout

Sleeping worse, needing longer to recover after a busy week, irritability, cynicism, more mistakes and withdrawing from meetings.

The difficult part is that people often only recognise these signals once it is too late. That is why we measure objectively: a three to five day ECG measurement shows how load and recovery relate, even when someone says they are fine.

How we approach it

A short intake of 5 to 20 minutes, then a measurement and coaching conversation every quarter on our initiative. If there are complaints we move to treatment. Optionally you extend to partner and children with the Family package.

Reporting to the employer is always anonymised. You see trends across the team, never what an individual discussed.

Frequently asked questions

Does burnout prevention actually work?

Prevention does not stop every case, but it shortens and softens it. Measuring and coaching every quarter makes problems visible months earlier, when a few conversations are still enough.

What does burnout prevention cost per employee?

At MentalCareDirect™ you pay a fixed monthly amount per participating employee, including the quarterly measurement, coaching and treatment. See the rate indication for current figures.

Does everyone have to take part?

No. Participation is voluntary and you only pay for employees who take part.

We don't have a subscription and something is going on now. What then?

Request a quote for that employee. Even without a subscription we help within a few working days, with no waiting list.
